Technology fights Zika at Olympic Games in Rio

The Zika virus is spreading fast across Brazil, raising concern for both athletes and visitors.

Luckily, there’s an app for that.

Technology is playing a big role in tracking, preventing, and treating the spread of the disease.

The World Health Organization launched a Zika app to provide information about the disease.

The WHO is not alone. Other organizations like the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) are using smart maps to track the disease globally and locate the carrier’s breeding grounds.

Smart thermometer maker Kinsa will be giving away thermometers to track symptoms, and the company also created an app to crowd source local outbreaks.

An estimated 500,000 people, 200,000 of them Americans, will travel to the Olympics in Rio.

With the help of technology, let’s hope the Olympics remain all about the games.
