Do you know enough about sensitive skin?
We have actually compiled an entire article on sensitive skin, how to spot it and tips on how to care for it. There are a number of mistakes you can very easily make with sensitive skin, including by using some – very common – types of products, which also do very good for the skin – just not the sensitive one. You can read much more about this here:
The optimal skin care routine for sensitive skin
Below you will find our offer on the optimal skin care routine for sensitive skin. The products must be used in the order in which they are mentioned. Remember that of course you do not need all the steps we suggest: the most important are cleanser, serum and cream if you just want to keep it simple!
In fact, a sensitive skin really benefits from using as few products as possible. The more products you use, the greater the risk that there is something in the products that can irritate your skin. By keeping it simple, you not only minimize the risk of skin irritation, but also make it significantly easier for yourself to spot where in the routine it goes wrong if you still experience problems.
Note that although it may make sense to avoid perfume in your products if you have the sensitive skin type, we also have alternatives with a little fragrance in this guide. If you want to see suggestions for completely perfume-free routines, take a look at the article below:
Facial cleanser
Every good skin care routine starts with a facial cleanser, and the skin needs to be cleansed regularly to have the best conditions to stay healthy. Just as we brush our teeth to maintain good oral hygiene, we also need to clean the skin free of dirt, makeup and pollution, so that we maintain an intact skin barrier.
It is generally recommended that you cleanse your skin morning and evening, but sensitive skin can sometimes be best served by only being cleansed in the evening if you find that it becomes inappropriately dry or irritated by cleansing twice a day. Try yourself to find out what works best for you.
Skintonic
Skintonic is step # 2 in a skincare routine and can have many features. For sensitive skin, we recommend that you use this step to build up your moisture care and soothe the skin, and therefore to go for a nice nourishing skin tonic which starts the whole moisturizing process.
Eye cream
An eye cream is a product that is specially formulated for the delicate eye environment. It contributes moisture and depending on which one you choose, they can be obtained with properties that counteract dark circles and swelling.
Serum
A serum is a concentrated form of care which is chosen depending on what challenges your skin is struggling with. For sensitive skin, it is a good idea to choose a nourishing and soothing serum that adds to your skin the moisture it needs while actively combating skin irritation.
If you suffer from special skin challenges such as pigment changes or wrinkles, you can also choose serum after that – many serums easily solve several tasks at once.
Cream
A good cream is the last step in your skincare routine. It is intended to moisturize the skin and ensure that the moisture stays in the skin until the next time you apply cream. Sensitive skin benefits from a simple, soothing cream, preferably with a slightly oilier consistency that can form a protective layer on the skin. You can also choose to use a face oil as a substitute for your cream if you like it better.
